Grey (Fifty Shades #4) by E L James

In Christian's own words, and through his thoughts, reflections, and dreams, E L James offers a fresh perspective on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the world.

Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty—until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him—past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian’s cold, wounded heart.

Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh, Fifty, Fifty, Fifty! What can I say? You remain a complete and total guilty pleasure for me. I was so excited when I heard that she was going to release this book (I totally did a happy dance!). For me, this series is all about Christian and I loved the opportunity to see things through his eyes. He is by far the more compelling, complex, and dynamic character. This book did not disappoint at all. In fact, I think that I like the story from Christian's perspective even more. Don't worry, if you are a fan of the original POV, you still get all the good stuff.
This book is also by far and away better written then the previous three books, which although I love, are in need of a professional editor. It is clear that Ms. James now has a team behind her, and the result is a much improved writing style. There is still the occasional "one to many times" repeated phrase, but not nearly as many as the other books. It also has an amazing cover.
Grey only covers the first book and there is no word on whether or not James will be releasing the other two books from C's POV. I sincerely hopes that she does. There are so many more scenes that I would love to see through Christian's eyes. I guess we will have to wait and see. If you are a fan of this series, then Grey will not disappoint, in fact, it left me wanting more...
Rome (Marked Men #3) by Jay Crownover
“He wasn’t perfect, I wasn’t perfect, but the love we had for each other…nothing was more perfect than that.”
Rome has always known his place. He was the protective older brother, the beloved son who ran interference between his parents and Rule, the soldier. But now that he is back from the desert, he doesn’t know where he fits. He is no longer a soldier and has come back from the desert a broken and changed man.
He couldn’t protect Remy and is struggling to bridge the rift Remy’s secret life caused in his family. Now that Rule has Shaw, he doesn’t need Rome anymore. The memories of his time at war threaten to overwhelm him. Everything that Rome used to define himself has been taken away, and he finds himself adrift in a sea of gray.
After having her heart smashed into a million pieces by her ex-boyfriend, Cora makes a vow that she will only settle for perfection. However when Cora meets Rome, she cannot deny the attraction and feelings that he inspires, even if he is as far from Cora’s idea of perfect as possible. As Cora falls for Rome, she struggles to give up on waiting for “Mr. Perfect” and risk her heart.
Cora becomes the riot of color in Rome’s gray world, and he knows that he has to put his demons to rest or risk losing her. Neither of them is perfect, but they are perfect together…if they are both willing to go all in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This book is AMAZING! The Marked Men series is by far one of my favorites. I love each and everyone one of these characters. They are so raw and real, and the journey that Jay takes us on is heart wrenchingly perfect. This series is full of angst, drama, redemption, passion, and is by far one of the best NA series I have ever read. Each book in this series gets better and better, and I love how Jay has woven the stories of this group of misfits together. I highly recommend that you read this series in order, as they each contain spoilers for the previous novels.

Jay delivers another great one with Rome. I love Cora’s spitfire personality and admire Rome’s sense of honor and loyalty (not to mention that he is all sorts of delicious). I loved watching these two imperfect and flawed people find perfection with each other. There were some surprises and it is definitely a page-turner. It’s books like this that make me regret the fact that I have to put them down to eat, sleep and take care of other necessities. I was hooked from the very start and Rome, hands down, has the best cover. Holy hotness! This book is imperfectly perfect.

The best part is that we can expect at least 3 more books in this series! Nash (April, 2014), Rowdy (September, 2014) and Asa (TBD) are all scheduled to get their own books. We got some sneak peaks into Nash’s story and I have a feeling that it will join the ranks of my favorite guilty pleasure reads.

Mine (Real #2) by Katy Evans

"The heart is a hollow muscle, and it will beat billions of times during our lives. About the size of a fist, it has four chambers: two atria and two ventricles. How this muscle can house something as encompassing as love is beyond me. Is this heart the one that loves? Or do you love with your soul, which is infinite?"

Brooke Dumas never imagined that she would find love with the man every woman wants – Remington “Riptide” Tate, the golden boy of the underground fighting scene – but she did. For better or worse, Remy is her “Real.” As the new underground season begins, Brooke and Remy are determined to take back what Remy gave up for her last season – the championship and the chance to defeat Remy’s archrival, the Scorpion.

But sometimes happily-ever-afters aren’t so happy. New challenges, old demons and insecurities will threaten to tear Brooke and Remy apart. Nevertheless, they are both determined to hold on to the only thing that is real.

"Mind. Body. Soul. All of you for me. All of you mine."

I only have 3 words…Remington F’ing Tate! This man is my every fantasy wrapped up in one and definitely makes the top 5 on my book boyfriend list. I cannot get enough of this series and these characters. I LOVE Remy. He is a ball of contradictions. Powerful, yet vulnerable. Hard, but soft. Dominating, yet giving. He’s beautifully broken and I can’t help but get all fan girl when I think about him.

The plot of Mine was fairly predictable, but I didn’t care. I couldn’t put it down. All my favorite characters were back and Katy delivers a surprising poignant and profound love story. Talk about unconditional love….Brooke and Remy are enough to make anyone believe in soul mates and true love, and deliver that warm and fuzzy feeling that a good romance always leaves me with.

Mine delivers on all the things that I loved in Real. There is plenty of action, some angst, and plenty of steamy scenes. All in all, it is an excellent sequel that only left me wanting more. Good thing Katy plans on releasing at least 3 more books in this series. I’ve already pre-ordered mine and I am especially impatient for Remy (Real #3) which is Real from Remy’s POV. My love for all things Remy has my expectations sky high, so I’m hoping that it will be as epic as I imagine.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Coming Up…
Remy (Real #3) - Real told from Remy’s POV. Release date: November 26th
Underground fighter Remington Tate is a mystery, even to himself. His mind is dark and light, complex and enlightening. At times his actions and moods are carefully measured, and at others, they spin out of control.
Through it all, there's been one constant: wanting, needing, loving, and protecting Brooke Dumas. This is his story; from the first moment he laid eyes on her and knew, without a doubt, she would be the realest thing he's ever had to fight for.
Ripped (Real #4) – Pandora’s story - expected release April, 2014
Pandora, the gothic friend of Brooke (Real, Mine, Remy) thought that getting her heart broken by her bad boy rocker ex could only happen once. But now, he’s back in town with the biggest concert of the year. Pandora hates him so much that she gets Melanie to come with her and play a prank on him at his gig. But when they are caught by security, and her ex himself is summoned, he decides not to press charges if she’ll follow certain conditions. Pandora likes none of his rules, or that he’s in charge of her, especially since they seem designed to make sure she’s in close contact with him again. But the closeness reignites the passion they once shared, and soon no matter how much she wants to hate him, it’s clear she’s still hung up on him. And worse: he knows it too.
Raw (Real #5) - Melanie's story - expected release September, 2014
Book I: Love Unscripted
Ryan Christensen just wanted to be an actor. He never could have imagined the turn his life would take after staring in a wildly popular film. With his career in overdrive, Ryan finds himself in the fishbowl that is fame - hounded by the paparazzi and obsessed fans.
Taryn is unimpressed by the celebrities that have invaded Seaport as they film their latest film, but when Ryan Christensen escapes into her pub after being attacked by fans, she cannot help the attraction she feels towards him.
Both Ryan and Taryn have been burned in the past and have trust issues, but the connection between them is strong. They find themselves falling hard and fast for each other. However, Ryan's high profile career presents challenges to their relationship. The two of them must overcome their own jealousy and insecurity, all while surrounded by the constant scrutiny of the press and Ryan's fans, if they hope to have any chance to be together.
Book II: Love Unrehearsed
Taryn and Ryan found in each other what they have always been searching for, but happily-ever-after isn't so simple as riding off into the sunset. Taryn finds herself engaged to the most sought after star in Hollywood. She must now learn to navigate his Hollywood world and figure out her place in it. Every move she makes is documented in the tabloids, Ryan's management team is worried about how an engagement will hurt his career prospects, obsessed fans threaten her life, and her own insecurities seek to threaten her happily-ever-after. In the face of all the pressures and all those who want them to fail, Ryan and Taryn must put their faith and trust in each other, but with no script to follow they will have to forge their own path to happiness.
If you have not read this series then get yourself to a bookstore FAST...or Amazon with it's wonderful Whispersync. I loved this series from the first page to the last page. This story has everything you could possibly want in a NA romance. Taryn is down-to-earth and believable. Ryan is everything you could want and is the newest edition to my book boyfriend list. Together they make a great couple and I was rooting for them from the start. This series is full of angst and romance and I can't recommend it enough. Amazing, amazing, amazing series.
Simple Perfection (Perfection #2) by Abbi Glines
When Della Sloane walked into Woods Kerrington's life in Twisted Perfection, he never could have imagined how she would turn it upside down. Determined not to let his father control him anymore, Woods decides to leave everything behind him - his family, his money, the future he always dreamed of - to follow the one thing that made life worth living. When Woods' father dies suddenly, he finds himself back in Rosemary with a business to run and a mother to care for.
Della wants nothing more than to be Woods' rock, to be strong for him, just like he has been strong for her. However the ghosts of the past still haunt Della, threatening to pull her under at any moment. Della will have to face her past head on and fight for the one thing she knows she can't live without.
No one has the ability torture me quite like Abbi Glines. I love the Rosemary series and find myself coming back to these books time and time again. The books in this series are full of angst and romance, not to mention a bunch of sexy men. What more can a girl ask for, right? Abbi makes me feel every emotion, every scar, every beautiful moment. I get lost in this world and these relationships she creates. Simple Perfection does not disappoint. I love Woods and Della and was glad to see them get their happy ending. This one has some twists that I didn't see coming, especially at the end. I can always forgive Abbi for putting me through such emotional turmoil while reading her novels because she gives me such perfectly satisfying happy endings.
Coming up...
Rush Too Far (Too Far #1.1) - Fallen Too Far told from Rush's POV - expected sometime in 2014
It also appears that Tripp and Bethy will be getting their own book, although I wasn't able to find any information on expected publication dates. Simple Perfection contains story hints for both upcoming additions to the Rosemary series. One thing is for sure, I can't wait to get my hands on them!!
Burn (Breathless #3) by Maya Banks
Burn is the third book in the Breathless Series about three wealthy, powerful businessmen and best friends named Gabe, Jace, and Ash. Each book focuses on a different man and the previous books - Rush and Fever - were phenomenal page turners full of drama, romance, and sex.
Burn focuses on Ash, the most sexually adventurous of the three. Now that Gabe and Jace has each found their matches, Ash finds himself on the outside looking in for the first time in his life. His best friends are no longer interested in living the life they had been living, and Ash is left feeling restless and unfulfilled. All that changes when Ash meets Josie, a woman who appears to be immune to his charms. In an instant, Ash knows that he has to have her and instantly sets out to make her his.
I REALLY wanted to love this book, but I just didn't. After the first two book my expectations were sky high, but as much as I hate to admit it, Burn did not live up to those expectations. I expected Burn to be the best of the three, but instead it felt so tame and almost pedestrian compared to the other two, which was extremely surprising. Ash was always billed as the most adventurous sexually, I mean he had several wild threesomes with Jace! I expected his book to be full of drama and scenes that would require cold showers like the previous two novels....not what I got at all.
Ash and Josie's relationship came together almost too quickly and there was very little drama. The other novels were dripping with drama and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. There was so much potential for drama too - Ash's family, his past "relationship" with Bethany, the thing with Michael. What little drama there was didn't appear until the last quarter of the book and even that was quickly and neatly resolved. The whole thing just felt too easy and was a complete let down. Having said all of this, I did like the book. I enjoy Maya's writing style and I love these characters. Jace's book is still the best out the series in my opinion and I still recommend picking up this series, just keep in mind that the first two books far outshine the last.
Real (Real, Raw & Ripped #1) by Katy Evans
"I'm every woman's adventure, damn you, and I don't want to be yours. I want to be your fucking REAL. You get that? If I fuck you, I want you to belong to me. To be mine. I want you to give yourself to me"
The night that Brooke meets Remington Tate will change her life forever. Remington is the star of the dangerous underground fighting circuit. He is larger than life, a sexy as sin, beast of a man. The chemistry between Brooke and Remy is borderline combustible, and Brooke wants him. But when she is summoned to his hotel room, the last thing Brooke ever expected was for him to offer her a job, but that's what he does. Remy wants to hire Brooke as his personal PT to travel with him for the remainder of the season. Brooke accepts the job, never anticipating the adventure ahead of her.
As Brooke and Remy spend more and more time together, the connection between them grows, but Remy is holding back because he is damaged. He's hiding a secret for fear that Brooke will run when she discovers it. When the secret is finally revealed, Brooke knows that running is not possible anymore. She has fallen for Remy, despite the difficulties being with him presents. When Brooke discovers that her sister has become involved with Remy's enemy - The Scorpion - the ensuing conflict will have Brooke and Remy putting everything on the line.
I LOVED this book! When I finished I felt I like had been run over by a freight train named Remington Tate. He is such a domineering, powerful FORCE. There is just no other word for him - he is a FORCE! I still have trouble forming a coherent thought when I think about him and he has jumped to the top of my book boyfriend list. Remington is an amazingly complex character wrapped up in every woman's fantasy. The sexual tension between him and Brooke is intense and provides the perfect amount of angst to keep you on the edge of your seat. I couldn't put the book down once I started. Yet Remy is so much more than just a "beast," he can be amazingly tender and at the end of the story he proves just how far he is willing to go for Brooke. It is amazing stuff, this book.
Forever Too Far (Too Far #3) by Abbi Glines
"When you find your reason for living, hold onto it. Never let it go. Even if it means burning other bridges along the way."
Forever Too Far is the third installment of Blaire and Rush's story. In Fallen Too Far, we watched as Blaire and Rush's worlds collided and family secrets rocked them to the core. In Never Too Far, Blaire and Rush, both irrevocably changed, struggled to rebuild their relationship based on trust, even as family issues continued to threaten their happily-ever-after. In Forever Too Far, we get to see the fruits of their struggles. Blaire and Rush finally make it through to the other side and it is gratifying to see.
I loved this book! It was everything I could have hoped for - sigh inducing, swoon worthy, happy tears falling perfection. Just when I thought Rush couldn't get any more perfect, he proves me wrong! He is so romantic and thoughtful, and I hope that I can find a man who will take care of me the way he takes care of Blaire, and I don't mean the money and the gifts, but the utter devotion he shows towards her. I feel like he finally embraces the man he was always meant to be, the man that deep down he always was. Finally realizing that he couldn't fix all his sister's problems, realizing that she had to fix them herself, frees him and allows him to fully embrace what's truly important - Blaire and his son.
While books like this can sometimes turn out to be fluff and all filler, I do not feel this is the case with Forever Too Far. It is not as angsty as the other two books, but I don't think that was the point of this book. Instead of focusing on the drama surrounding Blaire and Rush, this story focuses on them as they focus on each other and their lives together. There are still plenty of steamy scenes, too. It provides just the right amount of closure to Blaire and Rush's story, and yet left me wanting more!
Forever Too Far also gives us a glimpse into the continuing story of Woods and Della, as well as some insights into Grant's upcoming books. I love the Rosemary world created by Abbi and all the characters. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Oh, and make sure you check out Rush's wedding song on iTunes...it's super swoon worthy! https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/id659106527
The Crossfire Series (Books 1-3) by Sylvia Day
Book One: Bared to You
Eva has just moved to New York to start a new job and a new life. Just as she is settling into her life in New York, she finds her life turned upside down when she meets Gideon Cross - a rich, powerful, sexy as sin businessman. The connection and pull between Eva and Gideon is undeniable and consuming, but both Eva And Gideon are seriously broken and hiding dark secrets from their past. As Eva and Gideon fall deeper into each other, they will realize that sometimes love isn't enough and that staying together will require hard work and facing the demons of their pasts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Book Two: Reflected in You
Eva has revealed everything about her past to Gideon, but he is still keeping secrets. When their relationship is good, it's amazing, but when it's bad, it has the power to derail both of them. When Eva's past comes back to haunt her, Gideon pulls away, throwing Eva into a tailspin. Eva doesn't understand the distance Gideon is putting between them and why he has become so cold, and it leaves her questioning everything about their relationship. All Gideon says is to "trust him" and to "wait." Eva must come to terms with her own insecurities and decide once and for all if she is able to put her trust in Gideon, even if the evidence and pile of secrets tells her not to.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Book Three: Entwined With You
Eva and Gideon's connection is stronger than ever and no one but Eva knows how far Gideon will go to protect her. Now Gideon is the one who needs protection. What he has done for Eva has the power to destroy him and until they can be sure that a knife no longer hangs over Gideon's head, the two are forced to conduct their relationship in secret. As the threat to Gideon diminishes, Gideon is determined to take their relationship public and make it clear that Eva is his, even if Eva has some lingering reservations as to what that entails. Even as their relationship gets back on track, there are still dark clouds circling above - Gideon's demons, loose ends of a police investigation, a spurned reporter out for revenge - that have the potential to destroy Eva and Gideon's happily ever after.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fans of 50 Shades will love this series. I know I have jumped on the Gideon fan train! There are quite a few parallels between the two series, but I feel like the Crossfire Series is more intense. What I liked about the series is that both the characters are broken, not just one or the other. It brings a new dynamic to the story and makes for some serious dramatic reading. Eva and Gideon's relationship is so rout with turmoil that it leaves you wondering how they manage to stay together. Their "love" is borderline obsession, and yet it is a lifeline for both of them. The challenges, insecurities, and setbacks they deal with make you wonder if the relationship is really worth it. For every step forward they take, they end up taking two steps back. And yet they continue to fight to stay together. It makes for some seriously passionate and steamy scenes and truly compelling reading.

This series was originally intended to be a trilogy, but Sylvia announced that there will actually be two more books in the series to tie up some loose ends. There is definitely a lot more to explore and wrap up and I am excited to see what's next for Gideon and Eva. No information of expected release dates for the next two books. I just hope that I don't have to wait too long. I miss Gideon already...

Jet (Marked Men #2) by Jay Crownover

Ayden Cross is determined to leave her past behind her. She knows what she wants and is determined to get it – a future based on security and stability and the opposite of everything she left behind her in Kentucky.

Jet Keller is every girl’s rock and roll fantasy come to life – tall, dark, sexy as sin, covered in tats, clad in leather and skin tight pants, and the ability to transfix every person in a room when he performs.

When the two of them meet, the chemistry between them is undeniable. Jet makes Ayden want to forget about her best laid plans, the plans that she doesn’t really want, but thinks she should. Terrified of losing everything she worked so hard for and getting burned by Jet, Ayden keeps her defenses up and refuses to let Jet in.

Ayden makes the fire inside of Jet bearable and centers him in a way that no one else ever has. The closer he gets to Ayden, the more he falls, but she has built up walls that Jet just can't seem to get through. Jet is dealing with his own demons, and when push comes to shove, he walks away rather than staying and fighting.

Fear, insecurity, and family drama drive the two of them apart and threaten their chance at a happily ever after. Making it work will require them both to let go of what they thought they wanted and needed to be happy, and realizing that all they really need is each other.

Do yourself a favor and pick this one up ASAP!! I loved Rule, but I love, love, love Jet! He is definitely worthy of book boyfriend status. I mean, who wouldn't want a sexy rock god who burns with a fiery passion? Sign me up! He is the ultimate fantasy – tats, leather, talent, passion – with a beautifully compassionate heart. I also really liked Ayden. Usually the female characters in these novels tweak my nerves a bit, but I totally related to Ayden. I understood her and why she did the things that she did, and I totally think that she and I could be friends.

While there is no major cliffhanger, the ending is open enough that there could be a sequel, something that I would gladly devour. I am also looking forward to the next book in the series featuring Rome and Cora. I have a feeling that it will be a good one. I hope that Rowdy and Nash get their own books too. I love this motley crew of characters and how they are so much more than outward appearances. Jay Crownover is an excellent writer and I love how she weaves the male and female perspectives together so that you get to see into the heads of both characters. She has quickly become one of my new favorite authors and I can't wait to see what’s coming next.

Rome (Marked Men #3) – expected release January 2014

Cora Lewis is a whole lot of fun, and she knows how to keep her tattooed bad boy friends in line. But all that flash and sass hide the fact that she’s never gotten over the way her first love broke her heart. Now she has a plan to make sure that never happens again: She’s only going to fall in love with someone perfect.

Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He’s stubborn and rigid, he’s bossy and has come back from his final tour of duty fundamentally broken. Rome’s used to filling a role: big brother, doting son, super soldier; and now none of these fit anymore. Now he’s just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes the only color on his bleak horizon.

Perfect isn’t in the cards for these two, but imperfect might just last forever . . .

Tangled (Tangled #1) by Emma Chase

Drew Evans is used to getting what he wants. He is handsome, arrogant, makes multimillion dollar business deals and can have whatever woman he wants. He has loyal friends and as the baby of the family, is spoiled. Drew is the master of his universe, until he meets a brunette bombshell in a bar who refuses to give into his advances. When they part ways, she remains in Drew's thoughts.

When the new associate at Drew's father's investment banking firm turns out to be Katherine "Kate" Brooks, the bombshell from the bar, Drew finds his life turned upside down. Kate is brilliant and ambitious, unavailable, and refuses to be thrown off her game by Drew. Drew and Kate become professional competitors as they both compete to land a huge account and the sexual tension between the two is palpable. When they are forced to work together, they will discover that professionally they make a great team. Drew still wants more. He is desperate to have Kate.

When his chance finally arrives, Drew finds himself feeling things he never thought he would, or could. Spooked by the depth of his feelings for Kate, Drew makes a mistake that causes him to lose his chance at love and happiness. After spending a week holed up in his apartment with "the flu," Drew realizes what an idiot he has been and sets off on a mission to get Kate back. Will Kate give him a second chance?

I loved this book! Once I started, I couldn't put it down. I loved that it was told from Drew's point of view. He is smart, witty, and a total playboy, but it made for an extremely entertaining narrative. I found myself shaking my head at his antics, smiling at his audacity, and laughing out loud. When I finished, I had the urge to go right back to the beginning and read it again. The characters were great, the story was well written, there are plenty of steamy scenes, which all make this a fantastic read. Drew is joining the ranks of my book boyfriends and I'm sure I will be picking this one up again and again.

There is another book which is in the works according to Goodreads. There is no cover or synopsis, so I'm not sure if it will be a continuing story or a spin off. I couldn't find out any further information from Emma's website either. Either way, whatever it is, I will most definitely be picking up the next book in this series.

Rule (Marked Men #1) by Jay Crownover

Shaw Landon has loved Rule Archer since the day his twin brother, Remy, brought her home. While everyone assumed that Shaw and Remy were a couple, Shaw only ever wanted Rule - the one thing she couldn't have. Rule was Remy's opposite in every way - he was tattooed, pierced, had wild hair, and refused to live life on anyone's terms but his own. Rule has never paid much attention to Shaw. She was his brother's girl and he tolerated her at best, never knowing about the feelings she had for him.

All that changes on Shaw's 20th birthday when too many cocktails leads to Shaw and Rule spending the night together. Now Rule can't get Shaw out of his head and Shaw is about to get everything she ever wanted. However dark clouds hang over their relationship - Rule's dysfunctional family torn apart by grief, Shaw's own family drama and psycho ex-boyfriend, and Shaw and Rule's own abilities to trust in love. They quickly learn that their love will not be easy, that they will have to work at it everyday, but that in the end somethings are worth fighting for.

Loved this book and can't wait for the next one. Rule is my new book boyfriend and is everything a girl could want in a bad boy. All I can say about him is "Holy Hotness!" He oozes sexiness and deliciousness. This was a great book from start to finish and had everything a good contemporary romance needs - emotional turmoil, drama, angst, great sex, and a happy ending.

Even more exciting...it looks like we can expect at least two more books in the Marked Men series...

Jet (Marked Men #2) - Ebook release date of May 28th according to Goodreads

and...

Rome (Marked Men #3) which it looks like we can expect sometime in early 2014

Rush & Fever (The Breathless Trilogy) by Maya Banks

This scintillating and deliciously evocative trilogy is centered around three wealthy, successful best friends and business partners: Gabe Hamilton, Jace Crestwell, and Ash McIntyre. They work hard, play harder, and are used to getting everything they want, when they want it.

Book One: Rush
For Gabe Hamilton getting what he wants is complicated, because what he wants more than anything is Mia. The problem? Mia is Jace's little sister. Gabe has watched Mia from afar as she grew up and now that she is all grown up, he is determined to have her. Gabe has starred in Mia's fantasies for years and when she sees him at an opening for his latest hotel, Mia is instantly intrigued by Gabe and what he has to offer.

Gabe, having suffered a public and messy divorce, begins all of his relationships with a contract. A contract that gives him complete and utter control and Mia finds herself being sucked into Gabe's provocative world. Their secret relationship is consuming and obsessive, but as obsession begins to turn into something more, Gabe will have to face and overcome his demons in order to keep Mia, risking not only his friendships, his business, but also his heart.

Loved this book from beginning to end! If you are a fan of Fifty Shades you will love this series. Gabe is deliciously hot and there are plenty of steamy scenes. He is everything you want in a fantasy guy - rich, powerful, domineering and beautifully broken. I liked the character of Mia as well. Although she was supposed to be submissive, she wasn't afraid to speak her mind and set her own limits. I will warn you that a few of the scenes are a bit much, so if you have issues with bondage and the like, you might want to skip this one. For me this ranks up there with 50 and has earned the title of Guilty Pleasure.

Book Two: Fever
Jace and Ash have shared everything for years, including their women. However when Jace meets Bethany, he finds himself wanting her all to himself. Bethany is down on her luck and has been living on the streets for the past 4 years. She works odd jobs and often doesn't know where her next meal is coming from. When Ash offers her the opportunity to spend the night with himself and Jace, she jumps at the chance to escape reality, even if it is only temporary. From the beginning, there is an instant attraction and pull between Jace and Bethany. When Bethany disappears after spending a steamy night with Jace and Ash, Jace becomes determined to find her and make her his. Despite the love they feel for each other, they both have issues that threaten to unravel their relationship.

I loved Rush, but Fever was even more amazing. It was sexier, steamier, and I love the characters even more. So far this is a series that is only getting better and I have high expectations for book three. Jace is my favorite so far out of the three guys and I feel like the characters in this book had a lot more depth. The story was better developed and this was definitely a "full throttle" book from start to finish. I even found myself blushing while reading some of the scenes, as the raunchiness factor is definitely amped up in book. Another must read guilty pleasure!

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

What better way to end a year and bring in another one than re-reading my favorite (tied with Jane Eyre) book of all time by my favorite author! Yes, after meeting my goal of reading 75 books I decided to celebrate by reading Pride & Prejudice yet again. I've lost count of the number of times that I have read this book, but I think this makes 10 re-readings.

For those of you not familiar with this book (and shame on you if you are not!), Pride & Prejudice tells the story of the Bennet family, a well-to-do (but by no means wealthy) family with 5 daughters living in an age when their sole concern was securing an advantageous marriage. The Bennet sisters' world is turned upside down when a Mr. Bingley moves into Netherfield Park and is instantly taken with Jane, the eldest Miss Bennet. It is through Mr. Bingley that Elizabeth, the second eldest, meets Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, Bingley's very wealthy and prideful friend, and takes a disliking to him. When she learns that Mr. Darcy played a hand in the sufferings of her acquaintance Mr. Wickham and in separating Mr. Bingley from her beloved sister, Elizabeth is determined to dislike him forever. However a series of events, intrigues and misunderstandings soon show that first impressions can be misleading, and Elizabeth soon finds herself desiring a connection with Mr. Darcy that she previously considered most displeasing. Both she and Mr. Darcy must overcome their pride and prejudices in order to find the happiness they both seek.

People always ask me why I re-read this book over and over. There are so many reasons that I could probably write a whole book about how much I love this book, but I will try to keep my admirations in check. First, I love the language. Words and phrases like supercillousness, pedantic, impertubabuly grave, and connubial felicity make my heart and mind sing! Nobody talks like this anymore. We as a society have become so lazy when it comes to language. The fewer letters and syllables we use the better. Words like LOL and OMG now appear in the dictionary! A complete travesty if you ask me. The art of using language (and letter writing) has all but died away. I love that it often takes a character several lines to say one thing rather than a few short words.

Secondly, I love the characters. Elizabeth Bennet is my favorite female literary character and I know that we would be very good friends if she really existed. I love her wit, humor and her ability to put Darcy in his place on numerous occasions. Darcy is my ultimate literary crush. I fell head over heels for him from the first reading. His swoon worthy phrases - "You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you." - induce sighs in me every time I read them. In my opinion he is perfection personified. Yes he is proud, but he is also generous, loyal and passionate (not to mention rich). If he existed in real life I would not hesitate to snatch him up! Elizabeth and Darcy's love story is amazingly heartwarming and I love watching the events that change their perceptions of each other so drastically unfold.  Even though I know how the story ends, in all of my subsequent re-readings I still find myself so wrapped up in the world created by Austen that I worry over whether or not Elizabeth and Darcy will really end up together.

Jane Austen writes with a fluidity and ease that can sometimes be missing in classics. The story is full of humor, friendship, gossip, and romance. She is by far my favorite author and I have read just about everything of hers that has been published. While I have many Austen favorites - Sense and Sensibility,  Emma, Mansfield Park, Persuasion - Pride & Prejudice is by far her crowning glory. I don't ever seem to be able to get my fill of it - both literary and even film wise. If you have never read this book, I implore you to pick it up. It is a book that I will continue to love, cherish, and probably re-read a million more times.

Easy by Tammara Webber

Jacqueline's world has fallen apart. She followed her high school boyfriend to the college of his choice where he promptly dumped her in order to play the field. Now she finds herself at a school where she doesn't want to be, with a considerably smaller circle of friends, and failing a class for the first time in her life. She never thought she would be this girl.

Against her better judgement, Jacqueline's friend convinces her to attend a Halloween party at her ex-boyfriend's frat house. When Jacqueline decides to leave the party early she is physically assaulted by Buck, one of her ex's frat brothers. Before Buck can accomplish his ultimate goal, the attack is stopped by a passing stranger who saves Jacqueline and takes her home. Jacqueline wants nothing more than to put the incident behind her, but her strange savior begins appearing in unexpected places, like in the back row of her econ class. She finds herself drawn to this apparent bad boy named Lucas, with his startlingly ice blue eyes and tattoos. Her friends nominate Lucas as the perfect rebound guy, however the  more she gets to know Lucas the more Jacqueline realizes that he is hiding a world of secrets. As their love affair intensifies both find themselves struggling to trust the other with the total truth.

I really enjoyed this book and it was a really easy read, despite the fact that it deals with heavy subject matters - physical assault and rape. I liked the characters and I thought they were relatable. Lucas is a great male lead and will be up any girl's alley who enjoy a bad boy with a heart of gold. He's protective, mysterious, an artist and intelligent. Where do I get me one of those? The story was somewhat predictable, but there were a few surprises - mostly in terms of Lucas' real back story, which I won't reveal here so as not to spoil the book. I enjoyed the author's narrative and would recommend this for anyone who enjoys a good romance with an easy plot.

Hush, Hush Series by Becca Fitzpatrick

I loved, loved, loved this series and it is probably one that I will find myself going back to reread every now and again. I think if you are fans of series like Twilight, you will probably enjoy this series. You will have to substitute fallen angels for vampires and Nephilim for werewolves, but it's not a bad transition in my opinion. Patch is my new favorite fictional (sigh, why are all the good ones made up??) male lead. He is the bad boy that Edward Cullen always aspired to be, but was never quite able to live up to. Nora, unlike Bella, didn't make me want to punch her in the face every 5 minutes. She does have some serious issues with trust and jealousy, but as a female literary character she's not that bad. Vee is a great character and I have a feeling that she would be a lot of fun to hang out with. I'm sure I would have to have bail money ready, but hey, what's life without a little fun?

I was happy that the supposed love triangle between Nora, Patch and Scott never really took off. I don't think I could have made it through the books if I had to relive a New Moonish type storyline again. I was slightly disappointed with how the book ended. I feel like Finale dragged a little bit and I was hoping for more of an epic standoff between Nora and her Nephilim usurper, which never really happened. I feel like the last two books were building to this huge battle that seemed like it was over before it really got started. Some things in the story came together a little too easily in my opinion and I wasn't thrilled with the Epilogue of the last book. It just wasn't where I anticipated the story to go and while I didn't hate it, it is not how I would have liked the story to end. I can say that I feel like everyone, with a few exceptions, got what they deserved. Definitely a easy 4 star rating for me.

Spoilers begin....NOW!

Nora lives in Coldwater, Maine and appears to be your average teenager trying to get through the day. Since her father's murder, Nora feels that someone is watching her. Her life continues in the same patterns until she meets Patch, who is unlike anyone she has ever known. He is beautiful, mysterious, and dangerous, and Nora feels drawn to him. She cannot decide whether or not to trust him. He always seems to be where she is and knows more about her than even her best friend, Vee. As Nora finds herself being stalked by a dark figure, she cannot help but to suspect Patch. As she seeks the truth, it becomes clear that Patch is more than he appears. He is a Fallen Angel - doomed to wander the Earth forever - searching for a way to become human. The problem is, in order to become human he needs a sacrifice - Nora. Despite the danger, Nora can't stay away from Patch as they fall for each other. Loving Patch is not without consequences, and Nora soon finds herself in the middle of a battle between the immortal Nephilim and the Fallen Angels.

The story continues in Crescendo...Nora survives the attack on her life and Patch, having earned his wings back, is now Nora's guardian angel. The problem is angels are not supposed to fall in love with humans. Everything seems to be going well until Nora lets three little words slip...I love you. After that, Patch becomes increasingly distant and begins to spend a great deal of time with Nora's arch-enemy Marcie Millar. Nora, believing that Patch has betrayed her and that she is just another one of his female conquests, breaks things off with Patch, but their lives continue to intersect. When an old acquaintance, Scott Parnell, moves back into town Nora can't help but think that he's hiding something about his past. When she receives an anonymous note and ring saying that the Black Hand killed her father, Nora becomes determined to find out who the Black Hand is. When the signs start to point to Scott and then Patch, Nora doesn't know who to trust. Solving the mystery will take Nora into ever increasingly dangerous situations and will lead to a discovery about her past and family that she was not expecting.

In book 3, Silence, Nora wakes up to find herself in the cemetery at her father's grave. The problem is she has no idea why she is there or how she got there, and soon discovers that she has been missing for 3 months. To make matters worse, Nora can't remember anything that happened for the last 5 months, including meeting and falling in love with Patch. Nora experiences flashes of memories - the color black - and feelings that she is missing something, or someone, important. While she was missing, her mother has begun dating Hank Millar and although she doesn't understand why, Nora is deeply suspicious of Hank. When her path crosses with Patch's (now going by Jev), Nora finds herself once again drawn to Patch without understanding why. Patch doesn't want Nora to remember. He swore an oath to her father Hank - if he let her go and kept her out of the war brewing between Nephilim and the Fallen Angels, Patch would turn spy and report the Fallen Angels' plans back to Hank. He wants her safe, but he too is drawn to Nora. When Hank double crosses Patch, all deals are off and he and Nora being plotting his demise and seeking a way to disband the Nephilim army he has been creating. After learning of a prophecy telling of his approaching death, Hank has no intention of keeping Nora on the sidelines and embarks on a plan to make her his true heir and future leader of the Nephilim army. A decision that will have dire consequences for all involved.

Nora and Patch's story concludes in Finale. Nora is now Nephilim and leader of her father's army. She finds herself riding a precarious line as she attempts to fulfill her blood oath to her father and her promise to the archangels. Nora wants to lead her race to freedom, but doing so will result in the destruction of the fallen angels, including Patch. Nora knows she cannot live without Patch, but when the Nephilim are reluctant to accept Nora as Hank's heir, she and Patch are forced to stage a public break up and see each other only in secret. Nora throws herself into finding a solution that will allow her to free her people while still remaining with Patch. Nora soon discovers that there are powers and forces that she never imagined could exist. When she finds herself drawn to a new and addictive power she finds herself poised to lose everything that is important to her. The series concludes with an epic battle between Nephilim and the Angels. Betrayals abound. Only one race can win and both sides will suffer loses. But after all is said and done, will Nora and Patch survive together?

The Perfect Game by J. Sterling

Cassie Andrews is junior at Fullton State College studying photography. Jack Carter is also a junior at Fullton State and a star baseball player with major league prospects. Jack is your typical cocky jock who has a reputation for sleeping his way around campus. When Cassie meets Jack at a frat party, she refuses to be taken in by his charm. Jack, who is used to getting his way with women, is intrigued and makes it his mission to get Cassie to give him the time of day. What neither of them knows is that they are both damaged - harboring wounds inflicted upon them by their own broken families. Against her better judgement, Cassie finds herself drawn to Jack and Jack seems equally smitten. He seems eager to prove to Cassie that he can pass the "guy test," a set of rules that Cassie lays out. Four simple rules - Don't lie, Don't cheat, Don't make promises you can't keep, and Don't say things you don't mean. They embark on a passionate romance as Cassie tries to trust Jack and Jack tries to not screw it up, like he always does. With just four simple rules you would think that wouldn't be so hard, right? As challenges arise and mistakes happen, Cassie and Jack have to make sure their ghosts from the past don't tear them apart.

I loved this book and Jack Carter has joined the ranks of my favorite fucked up male leads. Those of you who are fans of Christian Grey will enjoy Jack, even if he is Christian's less wealthy, less damaged, but still equally gorgeous cousin. He is yet another example of the bad boy that we girls all want to tame and transform with our love. I will warn my fellow cohorts who are not sports enthusiasts there is a lot of references to baseball in this book. It didn't bother me, as I am a big fan of America's past time, but it might bother some. Don't let that you off from the book however. While this is billed as YA Fiction, it is certainly for a more mature audience as there are a few scintillating sex scenes thrown in for the reader's enjoyment. It's nowhere near as raunchy as 50 Shades, but still equally enjoyable. Another book to add to my guilty pleasure shelf :)

The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

I decided to re-read the Twilight Saga again (I've lost count on how many times I have read this series...I think this might have been the 10th time??) as the final movie installment arrives in theaters in just a few short weeks. I often get asked why I re-read some books over and over, especially when there are so many other books out there to read. Some books just feel like coming home. They are like your favorite sweater, your favorite coffee mug, your favorite spot on the couch. Some books are just a part of your soul. While I would not put this series in the category of books that have had a profound effect on how I view the world, it is certainly a series that has become a favorite escape of mine. Every time I read the series I find myself lost in the magical world of Forks, caught up in the lives of the characters, and completely oblivious to reality (even if it is only for a few hours at a time), which is really all I ever ask of a good book.

For those of you who are not familiar with series, the first book of the series, Twilight, is about Bella Swan, your average teenager, who exiles herself to Forks, Washington to live with her father after her mother remarries. Forks is a small town in Washington known for its almost constant cloud cover and rain. It is in Forks that Bella meets the Cullens, most notably Edward Cullen, a family that is clearly more than average. Bella and Edward find themselves drawn to each other, despite Edward's attempts to stay away, and Bella soon discovers the Cullens' dark secret - they are vampires. This realization draws Bella into a world that she never knew existed, bringing with it the joy of first love and dire consequences.

I originally came across this series in 2008 when the movie was released. Prior to seeing the trailers for the movie I had never heard of Edward Cullen or Bella Swan, and I had no idea who Stephenie Meyer was. I remember seeing the trailers for the movie and have to admit, despite my love of vampires, my interested was not piqued. It was a friend who suggested that I pick up the series. She couldn't believe, being the vampire lover I was, that I had not seen the movie, or read the book. She had read the books and was a huge fan of the series, and she proceeded to tell me about the books and insisted that I go home and give them a chance. It was her description of the characters and the story that finally turned me onto the series. I went home and sat down on my computer, and used one of my Amazon.com gift cards (a fabulous gift for any book lover by the way) to order the entire series.

While I waited for the books to arrive, I just happened to be bored one Sunday afternoon and decided to head to the theaters to see the movie. It was towards the end of the movie's run in theaters - it was only showing on one screen and there were only like 3 showings to choose from. I have to admit, that while I didn't hate the movie, it certainly wasn't a cinematic masterpiece. I should stop and point out that I rarely enjoy a movie adaptation of a book as much as I love the book, and Twilight was no exception. I left the theater loving the idea of the story and praying that the books turned out to be less of a disappointment. When Twilight finally arrived at my house, I pulled it out of the box and instantly started reading. Once I began to read, I couldn't stop! I loved the story and loved Stephenie Meyer's writing style. I was instantly transported into the Twilight world and didn't want to leave. I actually read the entire series that weekend.

To think that I almost missed out entirely! I do not think that had I only seen the movie that I would have taken the time to read the books. As usual, the books are far better than the movies. In fact, I don't think one can really fully appreciate the movies without having read the books. I have seen all of the Twilight movies and I know that I would not have the same connection to them without reading the books. There are so many little things that make these characters so special that do not come across on the big screen.

For me, Edward is really what draws me to Twilight. He is the epitome of what I love in a vampire - a vampire with a soul, trying desperately to overcome his nature and be better, not realizing that he already is better for even trying. He is the perfect fantasy vampire, even though the vampire lore in this series is somewhat "softer" than other series that I have read. As with most vampire stories, there is the element of transformative love that I am a complete sucker for. I do have to say that I am not a fan of Bella in this series. While Edward is certainly a literary crush for me, Bella does not rank amongst the best female literary characters for me. I could not see myself being friends with Bella like I would be with say Elizabeth Bennett. I often find Bella obnoxious and too whiny. I am fervently hoping that Stephenie Meyer will one day finish Midnight Sun, as I would much rather read the story through the perspective of Edward than Bella.

The series continues with New Moon. Bella's world is shattered after her ill-fated 18th birthday party where a papercut results in Jasper trying to kill her. Edward, who already questions the safety of his presence in Bella's life, decides to remove himself from Bella's life in an attempt to give her the human life he thinks she deserves. Bella is devastated and turns to her friend Jacob Black for comfort. As Bella and Jacob's relationship gets more and more complicated, Bella discovers that Jacob has a secret of his own - he's a werewolf. Nevertheless, Bella finds herself no safer after Edward's departure as Victoria has returned to seek revenge against Bella for James' death. A series of misunderstandings leads to Bella racing to Italy to save Edward and brings her face to face with the Volturi  an ancient group of vampires tasked with keeping the existence of vampires a secret from humans.

As an ardent member of Team Edward, New Moon is my least favorite book out of the series. This stems only from the fact that Edward is absent for half of the book, and has nothing to do with the writing or characters. When I read New Moon I often find myself counting the pages until his return. The first time I read the book, I was utterly dismayed at Edward's departure and became irrationally angry with Stephenie Meyer. I continued reading it only because I knew that the story could not end this way. Bella could not end up with Jacob. I even had thoughts of writing a strongly worded letter to Stephenie if Edward did not reappear...

Don't get me wrong, I like Jacob, and I could easily see how Bella (or anyone for that matter) could easily fall for him. He is a warm, caring character - a perfect match for Bella. However, when compared to Edward and Bella's love, there's just no contest for me. Edward and Bella belong together. For me, New Moon was just one more step to reaffirming the inevitable - that Edward and Bella belonged together. I feel like it had to play out like this to dispel any thoughts of another possibility for Bella, to serve as yet another confirmation of the truth.

In Eclipse, Bella faces a series of new challenges. The Cullens, including Edward, are back and Bella must deal with the complications this creates with her Quileute friends and werewolves. Some new menace is ravaging Seattle and it appears to be the work of a newborn army. Who is behind the army and what their purpose is remains a mystery, but the Cullens, fearing an intervention from the Volturi, find themselves preparing to intercede.

I always found the cover art for the Twilight books interesting, and Eclipse might be my favorite one. According to Stephenie Meyer, the red ribbon symbolizes Bella's final struggle - choosing between Edward and Jacob, mortality and immortality. The threads of her life were unraveled in New Moon, and now she must choose to break the final thread - holding her to life before - or breaking the final thread and embarking on a new life altogether.

Eclipse is a close second behind Twilight as my favorite book in the series - and it is probably my favorite movie out the films. I love the action! I'm always slightly annoyed to have to re-live Bella's struggle with choosing between Edward and Jacob, because for me, her decision had already been made. This just seems like beating a dead horse, but again, I can understand why it is necessary. How the inevitability of their relationship would force all other options to be eliminated before they could truly be together forever.

The series concludes with Breaking Dawn. Bella, having made her final choice, and Edward marry and embark on their new life together, never imagining that their lives are about to take a turn that neither of them could imagine. When Bella becomes pregnant, she finds herself again fighting for her life and the life of her baby. The birth of Bella's daughter finally results in the long awaited transformation of Bella into an immortal, and also brings with it immeasurable joy and the possibility of impending doom which could result in the destruction of the Cullens once and for all.

Out of all the books in the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn is the one that I have the most conflicting emotions about. As the culmination of the series, I had high expectations for it. For me, Breaking Dawn is the greatest departure from reality. It requires a greater "leap" into the world of fantasy than the other books in the series. I felt like even though the previous three books are fiction, they still had elements that grounded them in reality. However, most of that goes out the proverbial window in Breaking Dawn. There are several elements of the story that require one to turn off the rational part of your brain and simply accept them as fact - such  as the fact that Edward, an undead vampire, having the ability to create  live offspring - in order for the story to work.

You have to be willing to make that jump with Stephenie if you are going to accept and appreciate Breaking Dawn. I have to admit that the first time I read Breaking Dawn, during the marathon weekend when I read the whole series, the departure from reality didn't bother me so much because I was already so lost in the world of Twilight. However, after subsequent readings, I found myself questioning the story more, and it started to ruin it for me...until I turned off the rational part of my brain.

For those of you who have not read this series, but have seen the movies, remember you should never judge a book by its movie. While I enjoy the Twilight movies and they certainly have improved as the fan base and budgets have increased, they are still nowhere near as good as the books. As per usual, the movies take artistic licenses to ramp up the action and keep movie audiences entertained. Some of these changes I liked, others not so much. I still much prefer the version my imagination creates in my head as I read the novels. If you like Young Adult Fiction and vampires, give this series a chance if you haven't already.

Fifty Shades Trilogy by E.L. James

The Fifty Shades Trilogy is - to borrow a phrase from the books - "Fifty Shades of Fuckedupness!" I'm almost ashamed to admit that I loved every minute...almost ;) The truth is that once I started, I couldn't stop! In fact, this series has spawned a new label for my blog - Guilty Pleasure. You know those books that are nowhere near literary genius, but you love them anyway? The ones that you want to tell everyone to read, but feel slightly embarrassed about admitting to not only reading them, but loving them? These books fall into that category for me. I couldn't stop reading and when I got to the end, I wanted to go back to the beginning and start all over again! If you are looking for a literary masterpiece, don't pick these books up - you will be greatly disappointed. E.L. James' writing often leaves something to be desired in terms of style, but for me it didn't make the story any less addicting. Hence the 5 star rating. I don't think that she set out to be a "writer" when she sat down to write these books. I've seen a few interviews with the author and I appreciate that she herself admits that she did not set out to write a literary masterpiece. She just had a story to tell.

Fifty Shades is billed as Twilight fan fiction and anyone who is a Twilight fan will certainly see the parallels. The story takes place in Washington. Ana is clumsy, has self image issues, is a big fan of classic literature, and prior to meeting Christian has little to no experience with men. Sound familiar? There is even the male best friend - Jose - who harbors less than platonic feelings for our heroine. I'm just glad that doesn't go anywhere - I would not have been happy about having to suffer through a New Moon style love triangle (sorry to my Team Jacob fans). Christian is a much darker form of Edward. He's a god physically, he plays the piano, is completely self-deprecating, is an obsessive control freak, and in the end utterly changed by love. Those expecting the chaste love of Twilight should be warned - whereas Stephenie Meyers faded to black when the passion heated up, E.L. James leaves absolutely nothing (and I mean NOTHING) to the imagination. At times I found myself totally blushing and got that feeling you get when you know you're doing something wrong, but just can't stop, and you're praying that on one catches you...

I loved the characters. Ana is far less whiny than Bella (not that I don't still love her) and I can see she and I getting along way better than I would with Bella. Ana, while equally obsessed with Christian, still has a desire to be her own person and exerts her free will, much the chagrin of Christian. Christian was by far my favorite character and is a rather complex one, in my opinion. For me it was less about his physical beauty (although I enjoyed that as well) and more about his issues. I truly felt for this character - he is completely "Fifty Shades," but it is not hard to understand why as you learn about his childhood experiences. He is very much a product of his environment - it was heartbreaking to read. Despite all of his flaws (and there are many), he did have some redeeming qualities. He could be generous, selfless, and good. He just couldn't see that in himself or accept anything but the negative. My female desire to swoop in and "fix" him was definitely in hyperdrive reading these books.

It's funny when I read how some people are mystified by these books' success. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to get it. Anyone with any insight into the female psyche can figure it out. There are so many elements of the female fantasy to be found in this book. First, you have the incredibly hot, rich as hell, powerful male who wants nothing more than to give you everything your heart desires and take care of your every need. Who wouldn't want that? Females have been pegged as the caregivers from the dawn of time. We are genetically programmed to put the needs and wants of others before our own, often at our own expense, and what's more, society expects us to be happy about it. When we fail to live up to this standard, we either beat ourselves up and feel incredibly guilty about it, or society places all sorts of pressure on us to. Is it any wonder that we are drawn to the fantasy of having someone else take care of us for a change?

Then there is the whole bad boy thing. Christian is a broken, deeply wounded human being and there is nothing we girls love more than a fix-me-up project. It's Beauty and the Beast, Dirty Dancing, etc. all over again. We want to believe that love, our love, is transformative. That it can take a man who is screwed up and fix him, make him not only be a better man, but want to be better. It's second nature to us. Fifty Shades combines the two - Christian takes care of Ana, and she transforms him with love. Sigh...

The series has been deeply criticized for being nothing more than salacious porn - and it TOTALLY is - but I find it interesting that any book or movie that deals with female sexuality quickly gets dismissed as frivolous and ridiculous. Not that I ever really expected these books to be taken seriously, but I do think it speaks to society's opinion concern sexuality and desire for women. Let's face it...not all female desires are chaste and pure, but that is what is expected of us. Anything else gets dismissed or a raised eyebrow. These books are beyond salacious and I love them!

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

Out of all the books in the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn is the one that I have the most conflicting emotions about. As the culmination of the series, I had high expectations for it.

However, after subsequent readings, I found myself questioning the story more, and it started to ruin it for me...until I turned off the rational part of my brain.

I think that all book lovers find a book or series (I have several!!) that we come back to again and again because it offers us what all great stories do - an escape...a chance to go places we can only dream of, to see things we can only imagine, and to do things that we may never have the real courage to do. Twilight is one of those series for me...

People always ask me why I read it again and again. It's because I don't have to rationalize it. I have a job that requires me to make rational decisions all day, and I love being able to turn that side off once in awhile. I love it because I love the characters, and the fantasy, and the cliche theme of love conquering all and living happily ever after.

P.S.
I did see Breaking Dawn - Part I and I wasn't disappointed. There was some artistic licenses taken and some things that I didn't care for, but overall I feel it was fairly true to the book. But fair warning...the movie also requires a "leap."
