Introducing Jessica Sorensen and her new YA book, The Year I Became Isabella Anders! Make sure to enter the giveaway for a signed paperback of this book! #NewSeries #TopFave
Isabella Anders has always been the girl that never fit in. Most days she feels invisible, especially when she’s around her older sister, Hannah, who catches the eye of everyone, including Kai and Kyler, the boys who live next door.
Isabella has had a crush on Kyler for years, but knows he’ll never see her as anything more than Hannah’s little sister, unless she finds a way to standout.
When Isabella gets an offer from her grandmother to travel overseas for the summer, she seizes the opportunity, hoping she’ll discover more about herself. And she does, but not in the way that she expected.
Three months later, Isabella returns home an entirely new person. The change is enough to catch both Kyler and Kai’s attention. But Isabella is still struggling with what she discovered over the summer and until she deals with the truth, she’ll never truly be herself.
An amazing start to what I feel will be another amazing series from Jessica Sorensen. I was hooked from page one and read the whole book in one sitting. My only criticism is...I wish it was longer! I was so engrossed in the story that I didn't pay attention to my "left to read" percentage and found myself stunned (and disappointed) that I had reached the end of the story.
I love Isabella's character. I think she is a classic underdog that people can easily relate to, and the sort of love triangle she has going on with the Meyer brothers makes (and is going to make) for some intriguing reading. The plot of the story is not entirely unique. It's like a twist on a Cinderella story. All the main characters are there in some form - the evil stepmother, the evil sister, the fairy godmother, the prince (or maybe princes??), and of course Cinderella herself. Nevertheless, Jessica manages to weave enough twists and mystery into the story line to keep it fresh and from being entirely predictable. She certainly leaves us with quite a few unanswered questions at the end of this installment.
The Year I Became Isabella Anders is definitely tamer and more YA that anything I have read by Jessica Sorensen thus far (and I've read a lot!). The characters are younger (high school aged) and while there are some hints at darker forces, it is not as in your face as say the Nova series. I am used to Jessica's books being somewhat dark and highly dramatic, so this was a nice change of pace. Not that it was boring or lacking drama...it was just a different kind.
I'm excited to see where this series goes and I am looking forward to book number two, The Year of Falling in Love, which is due out in December. This series is definitely worth checking out.
**I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cold rain instantly soaks through my clothes as I skip down the driveway, moving awkwardly, because I can’t bend one knee. I don’t care though. Rain is awesome. And it smells so great. Seriously, if I could, I’d skip around in the rain all the time.
My hair is drenched by the time I reach the sidewalk, and the flip-flops splash water from the puddles all over the backs of my legs. It reminds me of this one time Kai and I walked home in the rain and we intentionally splashed in all the puddles.
“Isa! What are you doing?!” Someone shouts with a hint of laughter in their voice.
My head whips to the side as I stumble to a stop.
Kai is standing out on the side deck, beneath the shelter of the roof, and I think he might be laughing at me, but the veil of rain crashing from the cloudy sky makes it difficult to see.
“Going to the paint store!” I shout then wave at him and start to skip off again.
“Are you crazy?” he calls out. “You can’t walk to town in the middle of a rainstorm.”
I sigh and slow down again. “I’m not walking! I’m skipping!” My eyelashes flutter against the rain.
“Can’t you wait until it at least stops raining?” he asks, shaking his head as I jump into a puddle.
“No way! It’s either the rain or being in the house with Hannah. And I choose the rain. Besides, rain is awesome!”
I can hear him laughing all the way from over here.
“Would you get your ass over here?” He waves at me to come to him. “I’ll drive you if you really want to go. But it’s too damn cold for you to be playing around in the rain, no matter how cute you look.”
Cute? Did he just call me cute?
Jessica Sorensen is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author from the snowy mountains of Wyoming. When she's not writing, she spends her time reading and hanging out with her family.
Ayden knows it’s time to remember what really happened four years ago, so he can help save his sister. With the help of Lyric, he faces his past head on.
But dealing with the truth is difficult.
Will Ayden finally be free of his past so he can move forward to his future?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was a short and sweet ending to Ayden and Lyric's story. While I enjoyed the story, I was slightly disappointed by this one. I felt like events from the previous books really built up anticipation for some of the events in this final installment that just feel a little short.
For example, the supposedly highly risky memory treatment that Ayden considers undergoing in an effort to help find his sister. Spoiler Alert: Ayden undergoes the treatment. However, it does not turn out to be as dramatic as I would have anticipated. Another example (and another spoiler!!): Finding Ayden's sister, Sadie. Again, the build up to this event was so great throughout the whole series that I just thought the actual event would have been much more...something.
In the end, I was happy about how Ayden and Lyric's story played out, but felt this book lacked a lot of the drama and excitement that I have come to expect from a Jessica Sorensen novel. Having said that, I still think the series is worth the read.
There are two more books planned in this series. Up first is Sadie and Sage's story, Forget Me Not, followed by Iridescent, which is Fiona's story. I am excited for both and hope that these installments will bring back the drama I so love!
After being betrayed by someone he thought he loved, Seth leaves for college hoping to get a new start. But leaving his past behind is more complicated than he expected, and underneath his upbeat attitude, Seth struggles with opening up to people.
Then he meets Greyson.
Seth is instantly drawn to Greyson and his sweet and charming personality. But even though he feels a strong connection with Greyson, Seth’s still hesitant to open his heart to love.
With the help of his best friend Callie, Seth realizes he needs to overcome his fear of commitment. But will he be able to finally admit how he truly feels about Greyson?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seth & Greyson is the last book in the Coincidence series, and I have to admit that I am sad to see this one come to an end. I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to get into this one, not because I have anything against same sex couples, but because I didn't know what to expect. This didn't happen at all. Once again, Jessica crafts her characters in such a way that wraps you entirely in their world. Not once while reading, even the more steamy scenes, did it occur to me that I was reading about a same sex couple. Instead, they were simply Seth and Greyson, two wonderful characters falling in love.
You should definitely read the other books in the series before reading this one, as there are glimpses of other characters that would spoil the plot of early books. It was so fun to relive those peeks through Seth's eyes. After I finished it, I had the urge to re-read the whole series from the beginning again. Unfortunately, I have too many books demanding my attention right now, but I definitely see myself doing just that in the near future.
This book was a perfect ending to this series and I am quite pleased with how each couple's happy endings played out.
Lately, life has been going well for Ayden. His relationship with Lyric is starting to heat up and his career in music is taking off. But the disappearance of his sister still weighs heavily on his mind.
Desperate to find out where his sister is, Ayden decides to take drastic measures. But his dangerous risk leads to the unraveling of secrets, and he’s left facing a darker past then he ever could have imagined.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love this series and the covers of these books are my favorite out of all of Jessica's books. I had hoped that this book would be the end, only because I worry that the plot line might be stretched too thin, but it's not, and it appears that there is one more book to come. If Inspiring You (due out in May) is the final book, then I will be happy with how this series played out. Awakening You is another typical middle book, but rather than move the plot forward, I think it's main purpose was to further develop Ayden as a character.
In many ways, Ayden grows quite a bit in this book - taking steps to move on from the past, changing his self-perspective, allowing himself to grow closer (emotionally/physically) to Lyric, and building the courage to face his past head on. While he is in no way completely "cured," I think his character is set up quite nicely to face whatever awaits him in the next book, which of course, includes the bombshell dropped on us at the end and involves a startling revelation about who held Ayden and his siblings captive. So after reading this book, I am left with only one question: Is it May yet??
The Unbeautiful series is another spin-off of The Coincidence series, telling the story of Emery and Ryler (Luke's (best friend of Kayden) cousin). On the outside, Emery is perfect. It was what she was raised to be. But on the inside, Emery hides many secrets. Desperate to escape her controlling parents, Emery leaves everything behind to move to Wyoming for school, or so she thinks.
On the outside, Ryler looks like nothing but trouble. His piercings, tattoos, and the fact that he doesn't talk mark him as different, dangerous. But Ryler only has one desire, to escape the hell that is his life and start over anew. Convinced by the FBI to work undercover and help bring down a powerful criminal in exchange for a new start, Ryler finds himself living a double life, his only focus his elusive future, until he meets Emery.
Both Ryler and Emery have secrets, dark secrets. The more time they spend together, the more they discover how intertwined their secrets are. When secrets and shadows abound, trust is a precarious thing, and Emery and Ryler face the decision about whether they will remain in the dark, or together reveal the truth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another fantastic read from Jessica. The story was exciting, suspenseful, and dramatic. I read both books in a day. I'm glad I waited to read them together, as Unbeautiful ends just as the story really gets going. There are plenty of plot twists and the relationship between Ryler and Emery is angsty perfection. Their story wraps up very nicely in Untamed, and overall I was extremely pleased with the story.
These books can be read as stand-alones, but there is some crossover with characters from previous books in the series.
A part time student, CNA, and caretaker for her slightly deranged mother, Clara McKiney doesn’t have time for a relationship. That’s why her friends with benefits arrangement with sexy and ridiculously charming Jax Hensley works perfectly.
But Jax has other ideas.
The moment Jax met Clara he was instantly drawn to her wittiness, confidence, and gorgeous smile. Even though he agreed to the friends with benefits arrangement, he secretly hopes for more than their weekend hook ups.
When Jax's estranged mother mysteriously disappears, he sees an opportunity to spend more time with Clara. After convincing her to return home with him, a new agreement is made. One road trip and week together to find out why his mom vanished into thin air.
Things are about to get complicated.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jax's story is not quite as angsty or dramatic as some of her other novels, but Jax and Clara still have their fair share of obstacles to overcome. It was clear that these two were on a crash course for each other from page one and I loved watching Clara try to resist the charm that is Jax. This was a refreshing change from Jessica's usual emotionally charged stories that leave you emotionally drained after reading them (in the best way possible!). While dealing with some heavy issues, Jax's propensity for inappropriate humor add a slightly lighter feel, which I appreciated. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I would recommend at least reading Wreck Me (although all the Nova books are fantastic, and starting at the beginning is always best!) before picking this one up, as there is some crossover with characters and story lines. Overall, another fine read by Jessica!
Ayden Gregory may want to keep running from his nightmares, but he no longer has a choice. His past is catching up with him. And fast. He relies on one person to keep him from crumbling. His best friend Lyric Scott.
Lyric feels helpless watching her best friend’s world turn upside down. But she does her best to remain positive and upbeat. She gets their band their first gig and even with everything going on, her relationship with Ayden starts to heat up.
But when danger enters Ayden’s life again, even Lyric might not be able to help him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am truly envious of Jessica Sorensen's talent. I have no idea how she is able to continually turn out these amazing stories. This one keeps getting better and better. Raveling You is very much a middle book. Jessica does a good job of moving the story along, but the story ends before anything really significant happens. It is all set up very nicely for book three, which I am dying for! It promises to be epic and I think Ayden and Lyric are in for a emotional journey. I am sensing a book hangover in the making, and I can't wait! Thankfully it looks like book three, Awakening You is scheduled to be released in March, followed by a spin-off book, Entangling Us (Sage and Saddie's story). This is a well worth it series.
2015 Reading Challenge: A book you can finish in a day
Lyric Scott has always had a good life. Outgoing, spunky, and musically talented, she’s constantly surrounded by family and friends, yet she still feels there’s something missing.
Then she meets her new next-door neighbor Ayden Gregory. Mysterious, sweet, and sad, Ayden is the exact opposite of Lyric and exactly what she needs to fill the void in her life.
Ayden has been through more than most people and believes his life is always going to be rocky, so when he’s suddenly adopted by the Gregorys, he’s thrown for a turn. But even with a new, loving family, he still finds himself haunted by the memories of his old life. The only true breath of fresh air is when he’s with his best friend, Lyric Scott.
As Lyric and Ayden grow closer, the lines of their friendship start to blur. But when Ayden's past unexpectedly pushes its way into his new life, their friendship and newfound attraction will be tested.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Holy crap was this book good! I couldn't put it down and found myself flying through the pages. There were so many good things about this book that I find it hard to describe just how good it is. You should definitely read The Secrets series before picking this one up. I loved seeing the characters from that series all grown up and being introduced to the next generation. Lyric is a fun character, and the perfect balance to Ayden's character. The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it ended just as things were getting REALLY good. I can't wait for it's sequel, which is expected to be released early this year.
**This novella takes place a little less than a year before The Secret of Ella and Micha. It contains glimpses of when Ella and Micha were younger, including a scene of when Micha first fell love with Ella.**
When Ella Daniels and Micha Scott are fourteen, they make a pact to leave the small town of Star Grove and create better lives for themselves. The pact was made as best friends, but over the next six years, their friendship begins to intensify. Feelings change. Grow. Veer towards love. But one tragic night changes everything. Hearts get broken. And the future they had planned changes forever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fans of Ella and Micha's story will want to get their hands on this little novella. What I loved the most about this novella was the chance to see inside of Micha's head as his feelings for Ella changed from friendship to something more. I thoroughly enjoyed this novella, and was left with the desire to re-read the rest of Ella and Micha's books. Another great read from Jessica!
After five years of marriage, Ella couldn’t be happier. Her job is great. Her marriage is amazing. But when she receives some surprising news, her world is turned upside down.
Micha loves being a musician, but being on the road, and away from Ella, is difficult. When the industry begins to put pressure on him to change his image, he makes a choice; one he fears is going to drastically change Ella’s and his future forever. That is until he learns Ella has a secret, one that makes his career choice seem hugely insignificant.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a fun little peak into the lives of Ella and Micha, five years after we left them. This novella is not full of the angst and drama that has been a hallmark of Ella and Micha's love story, but rather a sweet culmination of their previous books. You definitely need to read the other books in this series before you pick this one up, but if you are a fan of Ella and Micha's, then you will not be disappointed.
When Avery Hensley met Conner Wellings, she thought she’d found the guy she was going to spend the rest of her life with. She got married young and had the most beautiful son in the world.
Life seemed perfect.
But not everything is what it seems.
Turned out Conner had another side to him, a darker side that Avery didn’t see coming. He wrecked and broke her into a thousand pieces, leaving Avery to put herself back together. From then on, Avery vows never to let a man into her life again.
But then she meets Tristan Morganson. He’s sweet and sexy and wrecks Avery in a different way than Conner did, the kind of way that makes her feel alive again, the kind of way that makes her think maybe not all guys are bad. But can Avery trust him enough to let her walls come crumbling down?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love Jessica's Nova series, and Tristan was one of my favorite characters in the series. I was so happy when she announced that he was going to get his own book, and she did not disappoint. Jessica has the unique talent for creating these beautifully broken characters, and the journeys that she takes us on with their stories are amazing. You can't help but to fall for characters like Tristan and Avery. They have so much pain, that it becomes so rewarding to watch them find their way out the darkness and to each other. This is a beautiful story and I found myself tearing up more than once. Even though it's over 400 pages, I couldn't put it down and finished it in a day. Simply amazing. There isn't a single thing that I would change.
Things are going well for Callie and Kayden. They’re still dealing with their past and the pain connected to it, but for the most part they’ve moved on. The biggest decision they have at the moment is what they want to do with their lives in the future.
Eventually, though, the past catches up with them and they’re left facing tough choices. But Callie and Kayden learn that as long as they have each other, they can make it through just about anything. And in the end, they discover what they really want out of life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is one of my favorite couples from Jessica Sorensen. Their story has been an emotional roller, full of angst and drama from the beginning, and this was the perfect ending. These characters are amazing. They have overcome so many obstacles, and I loved watching them grow stronger together, and finally find their happy ending free of their pasts. I have zero complaints about this final book. In fact, this book earned a big book hug when I finished it.
Violet Hayes’s life is a mess. Between her stalker, Preston, refusing to leave her alone, her parents’ case still being unsolved, and falling behind in school, she always feels on the verge of losing it. When some unexpected news comes her way, it’s the final straw and she ends up doing something that almost costs her life. Thankfully, she survives and makes a promise to herself to put her life back together and to try and figure out exactly how she feels about Luke Price, the one person that’s always there for her.
But as a recovering alcoholic and gambler, Luke has his own struggles to overcome. He’s also fallen in love with Violet, but fears telling her the truth, that it will scare her away or worse, she won’t reciprocate the feeling. Plus, there never seems to be a right time to say it, either the case, Preston, or life getting in the way.
Can the two of them ever get enough peace in their lives to conquer their fears and finally tell each other the truth about how they feel?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have slightly mixed feelings on this one. On one hand, I loved it. I have been rooting for Violet and Luke as a couple since their first book, The Destiny of Violet & Luke. I enjoyed watching them get over the last of their personal and relationship hurtles, and finally find the happy ending that they so deserve. However, I was also slightly disappointed. After The Probability of Violet & Luke and all of the secrets that were revealed in that part of the story, I was expecting a more drama filled conclusion than what I got. I was dying to know what would happen with Luke's mother and Preston, and the way that Jessica left the story left me anticipating lots of angst and drama. While there was some, I was left wanting more, hence the four star rating. Everything just seemed to tie up neatly too quickly. Nevertheless, I still love these characters and their story, and if you are a fan of the series, this one is worth your time.
This short novella is a prequel to Wreck Me, the fourth book in Jessica Sorensen’s Nova Series, which will center on Quinton’s cousin, Tristan. Even though Tristan has gotten clean, sobriety has proven to be a 24/7 battle. Tristan has always felt invisible and has struggled to find a purpose in life since getting clean. Lost with no direction, Tristan finds himself drawn back to drugs again and again.
Quinton and Nova have tried to help by getting him involved in building houses with them for Habitat for Humanity, but even that can’t fill the void that Tristan feels. But then he meets Avery, and instantly he knows that there is something different about this girl. Behind her eyes and tattoos are a world of secrets that Tristan can’t help but want to unravel.
However, a confrontation with her past sends Avery running and leaves Tristan wondering if he will ever see her again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although this is a short novella, it does an amazing job of setting up the story line for Wreck Me. I always had a soft spot for Tristan and wanted him to find happiness after everything that he has been through. I was excited to learn that Jessica was going to continue the series and give him his own book, and based on this novella, it promises to be a good one. Both Tristan and Avery have issues that they need to overcome and I have a feeling that their book will be riddled with plenty of angst and passion. I can already tell that this one is going to give me a book hangover, and reading this novella has only made me more impatient for Wreck Me’s release, which is scheduled for October. This novella is currently free, so get it while you can!

Up next in the series...
Book #3: Wreck Me
Expected Release Date: October 2014
Once upon a time there was a girl named Avery Hensley who thought she’d found the guy—the one that she thought she was going to spend the rest of her life with. They got married young and had the most beautiful son in the world.
Life seemed perfect.
But not everything is what it seems.
Turned out the guy had another side to him, one Avery didn’t see coming. He wrecked her and broke her into a thousand pieces that she had to put back together again. She swore off guys from then on, vowing never to let anyone hurt her or her son again. She built a wall around herself and planned on never letting anyone through it again.
But then she meets Tristan Morganson. He wrecks Avery in a different way, the kind of way that makes her feel free again, the kind of way that makes her think not all guys are bad. But can Avery trust him enough to let her wall come crumbling down?
Luke Price and Violet Hayes haven’t seen each other in a month, not since they found out about Luke’s mother being involved in Violet’s parent’s murders. But when Luke gets into some gambling trouble, the only person he can turn to for help is Violet.
Violet is torn on whether she should help Luke, especially because she has her own problems to worry about. But it’s hard to say no to the only person she’s ever had feelings for.
I don’t know how Jessica Sorensen manages to churn out these books, but I love them! Every single one. She creates these characters that are so beautifully broken and have such painful stories. Every book I read of hers is an emotional roller coaster from start to finish, and I often find myself “suffering” from a book hangover. She is one of the few authors that have earned an automatic pre-order. I don’t care what it is, if she wrote it, I’m ordering it. Her books are that good. The Coincidence Series is one of my favorites that she has written.
Violet and Luke’s story is a spin off of Sorensen’s Callie and Kayden series. Violet is Callie’s aloof college roommate, and Luke is her boyfriend Kayden’s best friend. The two meet in The Destiny of Violet & Luke and manage to break down each other’s walls, only to find themselves torn apart by a dark secret. One month later, Violet and Luke find themselves thrown back together when Luke gets into some gambling trouble. Neither one can deny the pull they feel towards each other, but the revelations concerning their connected pasts proves to be a difficult obstacle to overcome.
This is very much a transition book, as Sorensen has one more book planned for Violet and Luke. While the story is good, and I was pleased with how it moved the story forward, do not go into this book expecting any resolutions. In fact, while there is not “cliffhanger,” this book foreshadows several events that promise to make book three epic. Unfortunately, book three isn’t due out until September. And yes, I already have mine pre-ordered :)
Today is the first day of Quinton Carter's new life. The toxic guilt of his past left him in pieces-but one girl unexpectedly put him back together. Thanks to Nova Reed, Quinton can finally see the world with clear eyes. She's the reason his heart is still kicking behind the jagged scar on his chest. And he would love to have her in his arms every minute of the day . . . but he's not ready yet.
Playing drums in a band and living with her best friends are just some of the highlights of Nova's life. But the best new development? Talking to Quinton on the phone each night. She wishes she could touch him, kiss him, though she knows he needs time to heal. Yet shocking news is on the way-a reminder of life's dark side-and Nova will need Quinton like he once needed her. Is he strong enough to take the final leap out of his broken past . . . and into Nova's heart?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This might be my favorite series of Jessica’s, which is saying a lot, because I LOVE her books. Jessica is one of the few authors that I automatically pre-order whatever book she has coming out because I know I'm going to love it. She is also one of my go-to authors when I'm looking for an emotional roller coaster ride.
What I appreciated most about the series was that Jessica didn’t try to sugarcoat addiction. Her characters are real and dealing with real issues. There wasn’t a magical moment when they were suddenly able to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives and move on. They had to put in the work. They struggled and faced temptation. As someone who has seen addiction first hand, I appreciated that, because it's not pretty. Other books that I have read that deal with similar issues have glossed over the ugly parts of addiction, or made it seem like it was all too easy to overcome this devastating disease. Not the case here, which added a real sense of reality to this fictional world.
Jessica has an extraordinary ability to create characters that you feel for. I identified with Nova’s wish to fix everything for the ones she cares about. I loved seeing Quinton find purpose and direction again. But what I loved most, was watching them finally make their way back to each other. I was very happy with the ending of Quinton and Nova’s story. They are one of my favorite couples, because they are not perfect people. They are perfect for each other. I was saddened to see that not all of the characters ended up with a happy ending, but life doesn’t always work like that, even in fiction. For me, this again added to the realist quality that this series has.
Tristan: Finding Hope (Nova #3.5)
Release Date: June 2014
A FREE short story featuring Tristan and prequel to Wreck Me.
Wreck Me (Nova #4)
Release Date: October 2014
Tristan and Avery's story.
Once upon a time there was a girl named Avery Hensley who thought she’d found the guy—the one that she thought she was going to spend the rest of her life with. They got married young and had the most beautiful son in the world.
Life seemed perfect.
But not everything is what it seems.
Turned out the guy had another side to him, one Avery didn’t see coming. He wrecked her and broke her into a thousand pieces that she had to put back together again. She swore off guys from then on, vowing never to let anyone hurt her or her son again. She built a wall around herself and planned on never letting anyone through it again.
But then she meets Tristan Morganson. He wrecks Avery in a different way, the kind of way that makes her feel free again, the kind of way that makes her think not all guys are bad. But can Avery trust him enough to let her wall come crumbling down?
Delilah Peirce is used to being invisible, to living in the shadow of her mother's magnetism. She wants nothing more than to be seen, to be desired, the way men desire her mother. When she meets Dylan Sanderson, for once in her life she feels seen and beautiful. But the path Dylan leads her down is not exactly what she thought it would be, and she finds herself losing pieces of herself, transforming into something different, along the way.
We first meet Delilah, a.k.a. Red, in Breaking Nova, and now we get a small glimpse into the events that led her down her current path of destruction. I really enjoyed this short story and feel like it went a long way in fleshing out Delilah's character.
I love the Nova series. It is painfully raw and dark, and the characters' stories stay with you even after you read the last page. Jessica Sorensen has an amazing talent for creating these beautifully broken characters that your heart bleeds for. I can only hope that this short story means that Delilah will get her own book in the future. I am dying to know what happens next and if she ever finds her happy ending.
Nova Reed has come through to the other side and Quinton Carter played a big part in her success. The problem is, since walking away from him, she has no idea where to find him. She knows that he is still out there, drowning in his own pain and addiction, and she is determined to find him and help him.
Try as he might, Quinton can't forget Nova, but he knows that he doesn't deserve her or anything good in his life at all. Quinton has sunk deeper into his addiction and is finding it harder and harder to hold on. When Nova shows up at his door, having followed him to Las Vegas, he finds himself in a constant battle to push Nova away, while wanting to pull her close at the same time. He doesn't deserve her, but Nova refuses to go away.
While Nova desperately tries to convince Quinton to get help, he continues to engage in drugs and dealing, which leads to some trouble for him and his cousin, Tristan. Nova's hope is continually tested as Quinton heads towards rock bottom and she finds herself wondering if she is strong enough to help him. When Quinton finally hits rock bottom, he faces the most important decision of his life: surrender to the darkness for good or move toward the light.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This book...I have no words for this book. It was HEARTBREAKING and I found myself on the verge of tears almost the whole time. My heart just aches for Quinton. Having seen addiction with my own eyes and watched helplessly as someone I loved slowly destroyed themselves, I totally get Nova's perspective. What I appreciated about this book is that Jessica did not try and sugar coat anything. There was no easy way out, no magical cure. Addiction is ugly and it brings out the worst in people and makes them do things that they wouldn't normally do. Addicts hurt those around them because they can't see or think through the haze. It is a battle to get out of addiction. It is not something that happens overnight and it is a commitment that must be made each and every day. I believe that Jessica portrayed this perfectly.
I couldn't put this book down and I read it in a matter of hours. Jessica had me from the very first page. After I finished, I didn't have the heart to pick up another book and my thoughts kept wandering back to Quinton and Nova. I was emotionally wrecked. It's been awhile since I have been emotionally destroyed by a book and this one did the job thoroughly. I cannot wait to see what the next chapter holds for these characters. I desperately hope that they will find happiness together.

The Destiny of Violet & Luke is a spin off of the The Coincidence of Callie & Kayden series by Jessica Sorensen. It follows Violet, the enigmatic roommate of Callie, and Luke, the roommate and best friend of Kayden.
Both Violet and Luke appear on the outside to be tough and in control, but both of them are damaged and beaten by their pasts. After her parents are brutally murdered, Violet spends her childhood being passed from foster home to foster home. Haunted by her past, Violet keeps her distance from everyone, shutting down her emotions, and seeking adrenaline rushes when things get to be too much. Luke's life is all about order and control, two things that he lacked growing up with his drug addict mother after his father walked out. He uses alcohol and meaningless sex to block out the memories of his past.
When Violet and Luke's paths cross, the two of them clash instantly, but they can't seem to stay away from each other. Slowly they begin to break down each other's walls and make each feel things that neither one has ever felt before. As they open up to each other about their pasts, they discover a link between them that has the power to destroy everything.
Jessica Sorensen delivers another great one with this novel. Violet and Luke are so damaged that my heart broke over and over again reading their story. These are some seriously damaged people, and I love them for it. The story moved a little slowly, was a bit repetitive at times, and I figured out what the big twist was, but that didn't stop me from being completely wrapped up in this couple's story. These two people are so perfect for each other that it will be tragic if they do not end up together.
The cliffhanger is gut-wrenching and according to Goodreads there will be a sequel entitled The Probability of Violet & Luke. It looks like it will be released some time this year, but a specific release date was not posted. Needless to say, I will be picking this one up as soon as it is released, because I am dying to find out how this story ends. I have a feeling that it will be full of a lot of drama and angst...just how I like it! Fingers crossed for a happy ending!
